Five deaths have been blamed on a severe weather system that ripped
through the Great Plains and Texas, and spewed torrential thunderstorms
and tornado warnings in the South. It is now heading towards the
Northeast.

A bomb rocked Iraq's parliament building in the heavily fortified Green
Zone on Thursday, and many people were wounded, a parliament official
said. The explosion took place in a cafeteria while several lawmakers
were eating lunch, said Mohammed Abu Bakr, who heads the media
department at the parliament.

Kurt Vonnegut, whose novels included "Slaughterhouse Five" and "Cat's
Cradle," has died at 84, his wife tells The Associated Press.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates extends Army unit tours of duty to up to
15 months and says they will be given 12 months at home after a tour
ends.
David Evans, one of the three men exonerated today when the final
charges in the Duke lacrosse sex case were dropped, said they went "to

a result of their case.

proves Larry Birkhead is the father of Anna Nicole Smith's infant
daughter. The child, Dannielynn Hope Marshall Stern, could inherit

A female suicide bomber walked into a large crowd of hopeful Iraqi
police recruits and blew herself up, killing at least 16 people. A
separate blast killed at least six people in Baghdad. Also, four more
American troop deaths have been announced.
