Bush: Credit thaw will take awhile
The government's drastic economic rescue efforts will eventually pay
off, President Bush insisted Friday, offering calming words to anxious
Americans but no suggestion of a quick revival as Wall Street braced for
another wild day.
Breaking news: Construction of new homes drops to lowest point since 1991
The Commerce Department said Friday that starts on new homes fell 6.3%
to a seasonally adjusted annual rate 817,000 units, slowest pace since
January 1991. This was well below the 880,000 rate economists expected.
