Bridge Labeled "Deficient" Since 1990
In 1990, the federal government first issued an ominous label for
Minnesota's busiest bridge: "structurally deficient." In the ensuing
years, inspectors found cracks and corrosion, but no real safety issues
for the bridge that collapsed Wednesday.
