U.S. stocks tilt slightly upward as investors sort through multiple
economic reports and an optimistic forecast from global shipper United
Parcel Service Inc.

Several airports were shut and hundreds of flights canceled across
Northern Europe on Thursday as concern as ash clouds resulting from a
volcanic eruption in Iceland drifted across the region and forced
air-traffic controllers to close airspace to commercial aircraft.
